22 STRONG EVENT

Building Change’s 6th Annual 22 Strong Walk will have two options, virtually (a 22-Day Challenge) which begins Monday, May 07, 2024 and ends Monday May 27, 2024, and the in person event (22-mile + 2.2 mile walks) on Saturday, September 07, 2024. The goal of this event is to raise awareness and funds for organizations dedicated to eliminating veteran suicide.

The challenge is simple: walk 22 miles to support veterans locally and nationally.

The 22 Strong Challenge is an event series that honors and supports United States Military Veterans. The number 22 is significant to our event because it represents the 22 veterans who lose their lives to suicide every day. Our goal is to support our community of veterans and bring awareness to the charities we support.

In 2023, we offered a 22-Day Virtual Challenge in the spring and a 22-Mile In-person Walk in the fall with an updated route. We also welcomed two new beneficiaries, Re-Emerge and Dogs for Our Brave! Again we raised over $80,000 to support FOCUS Marines Foundation, Got Your Six PTSD Support Dogs, Joshua Chamberlain Society, St. Charles County Veteran’s Museum, Re-Emerge, and Dogs For Our Brave.

Our 4th annual event in 2022 was our biggest yet. We raised over $80,000 to support FOCUS Marines Foundation, Gateway Blue Star Mothers, Got Your Six PTSD Support Dogs, Joshua Chamberlain Society, Six Strings Heroes, and the St. Charles County Veteran’s Museum. Over 200 walkers joined us either virtually or in-person (in some cases, both!).

In 2021, we raised over $50,000 to support Mission 22, FOCUS Marines Foundation, Gateway Blue Star Mothers, Got Your Six PTSD Support Dogs, Joshua Chamberlain Society, and the St. Charles County Veteran’s Museum. We are looking forward to continuing our tradition of giving back to veterans in our community.

We held a virtual 22-day challenge in 2020 and raised $40,000 which we distributed to seven organizations in our community: Mission 22, Six String Heroes, FOCUS Marines Foundation, Gateway Blue Star Mothers, Got Your Six PTSD Support Dogs, Joshua Chamberlain Society, and the St. Charles County Veteran’s Museum.

In 2019, we hosted our inaugural 22-mile walk. We raised $22,000 and donated the proceeds to three beneficiaries: Mission 22, Six String Heroes, and FOCUS Marines Foundation.
